2012 was a tough growing season: hot and dry, ~5" of precipitation for the whole year. The good news is we had good seed selection opportunities for these kinds of conditions and, by and large, had good seed harvests. Germination tests are revealing most crops in the 90th percentile. Costata Zucchini was 99% germination rate, Dragon Carrot was 92%, Milano Onion 93%...The bad news was that we had a significant crop failure with a large tomato seed grow-out. It was simply too hot for the tomatoes to set, and by the time they did it was too late and they frosted out. Given the climate predictions we are getting increasingly serious about varieties that mature early and require less water.
